The New Zealand Rugby Commercial, NZ’s commercial arm of the popular sport, has purchased a staggering 33 World of Women Galaxy (WoWG) NFTs. This is the team’s first step into the web3 world, and they have chosen a great project to start with. Moonpay also played a role in helping the NZRC with their NFT purchase, which also aims to show support for the Black Ferns and women’s sport ahead of the Rugby World Cup, which starts this weekend.
New Zealand Rugby buys 33 WoW Galaxy NFTs
The NZRC team has stated that there is a clear goal behind the acquisitions, and they want to learn about web3 technology. In the press release, NZRC CEO Richard Thomas says, “We have been watching, learning, and absorbing all we can from the sidelines, but the time has come to take the next step. To do that, we needed to create a genuine connection, and we believe purchasing these powerful NFTs was the right way to show our intent and actively participate.”
The 33 WoW Galaxy NFTs represent the 32 women partaking in the Rugby World Cup this winter for New Zealand. The extra NFT is a symbol of the fans’ power and the strength behind them.
What is the World of Women?
The World of Women is a popular NFT project created by the artist Yam Karkai. The NFTs are extremely popular, but perhaps more so is their message and the community they have built. They are incredibly welcoming and inclusive and value equal opportunities for all.
Significantly, many in the NFT space credit them with raising diversity levels within the NFT community and onboarding women. The WoW Galaxy is the second collection in the wider WoW ecosystem.
Finally, in the future, NZRC wants to work with WoW and participate in the popular community project. The purchase of the 33 WoW Galaxy NFTs also aligns well with the ethos behind the NZRC.
