VR Platform Somnium Space released the Alpha version of their SDK for Somnium Space, the private world servers accessible through a portal on a land parcel. With this, NFT holders can now create and upload programmable and interactive scenes.
Somnium Space is an open, social and persistent virtual world. Basically, users can buy land, build around it, import objects and even monetize it. This means that the metaverse is shaped entirely by players.
Founder Artur Sychov describes this release as the “Most underestimated and important feature for Somnium Universe and very important for the future of The #Metaverse.” He added that “New age is coming, and nothing will be able to stop this expansion of creativity & decentralized creators economy.”
Somnium Worlds SDK: How it Works and What Can You Do?
The team uploaded a two-minute video on Twitter to give a complete walkthrough of the functionalities. To date, the video has been viewed 9,8000 times which reflects the interest in the roll-out.
The Somnium Worlds SDK allows users to make games, custom environments, and other creations. These creations can then be uploaded into the world and shared with other users. This SDK is poised to increase the amount of content globally, particularly in the social scene like concerts, art shows and dance clubs.
In terms of the technical features, the software development kit (SDK) integrates with Unity Bolt. It is a visual scripting solution that allows users without coding experience to build their own creations. Unity Bolt functions like popular e-commerce enabler “Shopify,” which allows users to build website storefronts without coding experience. Users can also create models, textures, and animations, design interactive elements, and upload them onto their land parcels using the SDK.
More about Somnium Space and Partnerships
Apart from building, Somnium Space landowners can also visit the creation of other players and interact with them. The developers have created Somnium Space with VR headsets in mind. However, players can also access the world through their desktop, laptop, or mobile devices.
Since its launch in 2017, the autonomous VR real-estate ownership and trading platform have advanced enough to compete with platforms like Decentraland and Second Life directly. Founder Sychov has extensive finance experience that’s why one of the platform’s edge is VR Asset Monetization.
The platform has its own utility token to support the ecosystem: Somnium Cube (CUBE). CUBE streamlines in-game transactions between players and functions like game tokens at an arcade. So as the Somnium Metaverse expands, the token will develop in-world utility and allow players to exist more deeply in the VR Metaverse. The market cap of CUBE now sits at $29 Million. As of press time, the price is $2.35 and the value grew by 18.2% for the past 30 days because of the roll-out and new partners.
The platform has attracted big names in the crypto and NFT Space. For example, Visionary Crypto Artist Eloh launched his Gods of Hyperspace Avatars on Parcel number 4791 on Somnium Space. The NFTs were displayed just outside the City Center of Somnium Space. Eloh created a lively space fit for his avatars through Somnium Space’s VR capabilities instead of a traditional art gallery.
